Reclaiming Your Daily Ritual
Ritual. We all have one, whether we are aware of it or not. Things we do for ourselves, before we get our day started. Or things we do at work. Look around and you’ll notice that everyone, from athletes to artists to gamblers has some kind of practice that helps them center and focus.
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of ritual in our daily lives. Ritual is something that has always been sacred to me. Something that I’ve always quietly kept and shared with myself. But in the past year, I’ve noticed that my ritual has slowly been replaced with tasks. It’s something I did unconsciously, but it has very tangible effects: My day no longer has a focal point. Instead it’s become a succession of tasks that just happen.
It’s time to reclaim my ritual and steep my day in simplicity and focus.
